In Which Bre and Tami Discuss E-Readers and Nano in Your Coffee
…with light cream and sugar.

Saucy Content
Tami gives us the run down on her experience with the Sony 700 e-reader, a plea to publishers not to punish readers and info on Nanowrimo and how you can join!

Nanowrimo is coming and the Saucy Wenches have you covered!  Here is the run down on what the Saucy Wenches will be doing the months of Oct, Nov and Dec!

We plan to have our Oct. shows focus on pre-work, figuring out what you are going to write about, get those outlines, characters sheets, whatever you need done before Nov.1st.

During Nov, we won’t have any shows (because we all should be writing!) and will be present and available at the new saucy wenches ning site. This site will provide information, forums for questions and everyone wants, we can even set up a chat to try and keep us going when we feel our lights about to go out.

Feel free to go to the site at http://saucywenches.ning.com/ and register. Make your own page, play around in the site and let us know you are there :)

Dec brings the aftermath but it also brings editing! We will have some exciting shows on how to go back and start revising, special guest Steve Hall to help us navigate the grammar waters and other tips to get that novel into shape.

I hope everyone is as excited as we are, this is going to be a great ride!

    Netbooks make for really awesome all-purpose tools for e-reading, writing, internet browsing, and movie watching. They fit in the majority of backpacks and shoulderbags, and only cost a hundred or so dollars more than e-readers.

    The only thing it doesn’t do is run WoW, and in the context of NaNoWriMo, that is actually an added bonus.

  2. Tami Says:

    @Krizzlybear
    Actually, I’m pretty sure some netbooks cost LESS than some eReaders.

    Having actually played with a really real eReader, I can attest that it is more convenient by far to use as an eReader than a netbook (and not just because of the ‘like reading ink on paper’ text they use).

    However…compare the list of uses for a netbook to the list of uses for a similarly priced eReader and it’s awfully hard to recommend an eReader to the average user.

    Wait…what? I’m doing…oh, yeah, I remember now! :D

    In my Monday blog post I linked to an article (not very good) with an embedded video (much better) about Microsoft’s Courier, which is in production. As I watched the video, Tami, I was struck by how it seemed to address every criticism you had of the Sony e-book reader, and of all e-readers, in fact. Check it out!

    @Steve
    oho! I’ll have to watch that tonight!

    Also, I spy, with my little eye, some missing wordpress plugins on saucy.

    I’m really glad you guys are back in business! I thoroughly enjoyed the show. I have several thoughts about eReaders rolling around in my head… I think there’s enough there for a post of it’s own on my blog :-)

    Looking forward to more!

  6. Tami Says:

    @Lauren
    Hee! Thank you! *twirls* All these well-wishes are making me giggly, like champagne bubbles.

    Looking forward to that blog post!

    A couple of things (because I’m avoiding doing work).

    1a.) ePaper is allegedly “easier to read” than laptops/netbooks.
    1b.) I thought the Kindle had pretty widespread internet access. Something like more or less the continental US (uses wireless 3G). However, I believe you get a pretty limited internet (e.g. Amazon, New York Times, etc.).
    2a.) My car actually will last forever.
    2b.) Monastic books will last a lot longer. Not just because of historical interest either.
    2c.) Not to advocate DRM, but publishers need to be able to protect themselevs. They just need a smarter way to do it. People will “steal” freely available content, even if it’s cheap.
    2d.) Not everyone will buy a deadtree book after a eBook (same with CDs). I suspect most would give that as an argument, but comparatively few would actually follow through. For me, I would rather get the eBook and print my own physical copy, as a backup, if I want one.
    3.) http://www.drgreene.com/21_577.html H1N1 is supposed to be a mild, really contagious flu.

    Glad to see you back, gals! I myself have been swallowed by RL madness, moving out, breaking up, looking for a job, all those things… But when I heard you talking about NaNoWriMo now… I am really, really tempted to jump back in on the deep end!

    Tell me I am mad . Ah well.

    @Iris
    Ha! You are mad. Do it anyway. *grins*
